Wide Waters Yacht Club

WWYC was “conceived” in the fall of 1964 when a group of fellow boaters, anxious to get into mischief of some kind, had a dock party among themselves and later decided that a swinging group like this should make a serious attempt to organize a Yacht Club. Hence, the following spring of 1965, Wide Waters Yacht Club was founded and organized by practically the same group of men and women who attended the initial party. The first meeting was held outside the back door of the old boat shed at Starved Rock Marina. Those present at the time became charter members. Of special interest, June Helmig, attorney from Granville, Illinois, was made an honorary charter member, and was the one who wrote the original legal documents of our charter and By-Laws and later became the wife of the Honorable Judge Walter Dixon.

A Unique Adventure

Wide Waters Yacht Club is a family friendly and fun group that gets together to share the love of boating through several events throughout the boating season.

As a member of the IRBBA (Illinois River Basin Boating Association), we are active in supporting other members in other clubs throughout the area, enjoying the camaraderie of fellow boating enthusiasts.

Our boating "season", monitored by mother nature, kicks off at the end of May annually with the ceremonial Flag Raising and in Memorandum for our fallen fleet members and friends.  This is followed by the Blessing of the Fleets, a ministered ceremony to bless our journeys as we kick off the season.

Many other events dot the calendar throughout the year.  Please check out our Events page for more information.
